Fall Spotlight Kenosha Pass

Fall is among the most beautiful times of the year to visit Colorado.  For the month of September I am going to highlight some of the best hikes that I have found to see the leaves changing colors.

Kenosha Pass

This three-mile pathway may well be the most traversed portion of the 500-mile Colorado Trail from Denver to Durango — and for good reason. The stunning fall colors against a backdrop of imposing 13ers and 14ers is stunning.

Getting To Kenosha Pass

Kenosha Pass is located about 65 miles southwest of Denver along US 285. From Denver, take US 285 towards Bailey, Colorado. From Bailey, continue driving approximately 19 miles on 285 to the Kenosha Pass Trailhead.

Parking

The trailhead parking area is located on both East (left when coming from Denver) and West (right side when coming from Denver) of 285

Hiking

The Colorado trail offers to distinct hiking area segment 5 on the East and segement 6 on the West.  Both of these hikes are point to point hikes, meaning you'll need to turn around and come back unless you're planning on backpacking the length of the Colorado trail to Darango.  Segment 5 in a more moderate hike without steep elevation gains while segment 6 is more difficult.   Segment 6 has more coverage from the thick aspens.  It is overall the more popular option when hiking Kenosha Pass.
